Your Privacy Matters
Shift Desk is a salary and shift tracking application developed by MakeLabs, a sole proprietorship registered in Karnataka, India. This Privacy Policy explains what data the app collects, why it collects it, and how it is handled.
Shift Desk is built on an offline-first, privacy-respecting architecture. All salary data, shift entries, leave records, and financial information are stored locally on your device by default. Cloud backup is entirely optional and requires your explicit consent.
What We Collect
The following table lists every category of data that Shift Desk handles, where it is stored, and the purpose for collection.

On-Device Data
All core app data — shift entries, salary configuration, leave records, and Money Planner data — is stored exclusively on your device using Hive, an encrypted local database.
Every Hive database box is encrypted using AES-256 encryption. The encryption key is generated uniquely per device and stored in Android's encrypted keystore. No other app on your device can read this data.
Sensitive values such as your Pro subscription status and AI consent preferences are stored in Android EncryptedSharedPreferences, which cannot be read by other apps or extracted without device root access.
The app does not use android:allowBackup — your data is never automatically backed up to Google Drive or any cloud service without your explicit action.
Cloud Services
Shift Desk uses the following Firebase services, provided by Google LLC. These are used only as described below.
- Firebase Authentication — Used only if you choose to sign in with Google for cloud backup. We store your Google account UID to identify your backup data. We never access your Google profile, contacts, or any other Google data.
- Cloud Firestore — Used to store your encrypted backup data if you enable cloud backup. Your data is stored under a path accessible only to your authenticated account. Firestore Security Rules prevent any cross-user data access.
- Firebase Analytics — Collects anonymous usage events (e.g. "report_viewed", "pdf_generated"). No personally identifiable information, salary amounts, or financial data is included in any analytics event.
Firebase services are governed by Google's Privacy Policy available at policies.google.com/privacy. Shift Desk operates Firebase under Google's data processing terms.
AI Coach & Groq API
Shift Desk offers AI-powered features including the AI Financial Coach, Financial Health Score analysis, and Savings Predictor. These features are powered by Groq API, operated by Groq Inc.
When you use an AI feature, a summary of your financial context (income ranges, expense categories, savings goals) is sent to Groq's servers to generate a personalized response. Exact salary amounts are anonymized to ranges before transmission (e.g. "₹25,000–50,000" instead of "₹38,500").
Free users are limited to 5 AI interactions per day per agent. Pro users have unlimited daily interactions. Usage counters are stored locally on your device in encrypted storage.
Groq's processing of your data is governed by Groq's Privacy Policy at groq.com/privacy. We encourage you to review it before using AI features.
Subscriptions & Payments
Shift Desk Pro is available as a monthly (₹99/month) or yearly (₹799/year) subscription through Google Play Billing.
All payment processing is handled entirely by Google Play. MakeLabs does not collect, store, or process any payment card information, bank details, or billing address. Your subscription status is verified through Google Play's purchase verification API.
Subscription management, cancellation, and refund requests are handled through your Google Play account settings. For billing disputes, contact Google Play support directly.
Age Requirements
Shift Desk is designed for working adults and is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18.
If you believe a child under 18 has provided personal information to this app, please contact us at hello@makelabs.io and we will take appropriate steps to delete that information.
Data Control
You have full control over your data at all times. Here is what you can do directly from within the app:
- Delete local data — Sign out and select "Sign out and clear all data from this device" to permanently wipe all local data
- Delete cloud backup — Contact us at hello@makelabs.io to request deletion of your Firestore backup data
- Withdraw AI consent — Revoke AI data processing consent anytime from Settings → AI Features
- Export your data — Use the CSV/Excel export feature (Pro) or PDF salary slip generator to export your data at any time
- Access your data — All data is visible directly within the app at all times
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP Act, 2023), you have the right to access, correct, and erase your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@makelabs.io.
Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we will notify you through an in-app notice on next launch and update the effective date at the top of this page.
Continued use of Shift Desk after any changes to this policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
